hello,

I'm intersting in this advert
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2399863.htm

I would like to buy a RHD M3 E36, for the "fun" and "realist" prices (in France it's illogical)but this advert seems to be interesting.
but why the turns signal are orange ? it's only the 3,0l version ?

do you know this professionnal ?

thank you for you comments,
simon.

sorry for my approximative englih language.

its about £1000-£1500 too expensive imo, unless LHD high milers command a high price, and the rear back box looks out of place also

Oui, je pense que c'est un moteur 3.0. Le volant est comme les 3.0. Pour être enregistré au Royaume-Uni 1998, il peut être construit en une autre année. Bienvenue au PH !

Or something like that! smile Yes, I think it is a 3.0 - although registered in the UK in 1998, it could have been built before - the steering wheel/lights imply that, but you would really need to check the gearbox for 5 or 6 speed (Le boit de vitesse??, j'ai pense!).

And to the other poster - yes cars are expensive in France - my family live there, and whilst new is often cheaper (Though less now with the exchange rate falling) second hand cars (Performance especially so) are VERY expensive! Think nearly double for a Porsche Boxster!

Edited to add, poster below is more knowlegdable than I on these cars, so he is more likely to be correct! smile

the car is a 3.2 evo grill is correct and wheels are correct also has digital climate control which was not fitted to 3.0
the lights is common to see orange on LHD more than likley the original country it was imported to it was there regilation if UK car then yes clear also R reg DVLA have been giving year prifix to to imported cars of the year it was built not import year which stopped in the 80s
have had number of vechicals imported through the 90s and all got year of build prifix so this is a R reg car
do a hpi it will tell you what it is and when imported

Well spotted! - I saw the wheels, but assumed they could be changed - never even knew the climate/grille thing though. smile

Could it be an american import? I can't make it out on the screen but I think it has an mpg gauge on the speedo instead of oil temp? also the cup holder by the armrest i've only seen on US spec cars. That 4 spoke wheel is really a US thing too.

This could explain the orange indicators, if it is US spec your looking at 240bhp though..

There has been a lhd one floating about for what seems like a year & it may indeed be that one, it does ring a bell.

Yes pricy vs rhd but thats not the issue, as said a lhd something sporty or classic sells v easily at a lot more $ vs rhd, an example is Boxster esp S in South of France are mad money- double ours & given anything decent & decently priced had long since gone or is snapped up quickly I've never worked out why it hung around so long, I'd def inspect it & inspect it very well before parting with my cash mon ami smile

Good point! Didn't realise that they were that much down on power though, you learn something new everyday! (Well, after the comments about the grille and A/C we're up to three... hehe )

Best thing to do is let the dealer confirm, hopefully they will be able to allay any fears! smile And answer all the queries! Good luck with the hunt. smile

I agree with the above - the wheel's wrong even for a Euro 3.0 (which it isn't, for reasons set out above). American import seems a good bet. Good luck with it - keep us posted smile

ok, it's effectively a US import. I forget this car. I focus on RHD cars.

I search a M3 E36 with a lot of invoicies, in good condition, under 4000£
whatever mileage, version (286bhp or 321bhp, saloon or coupe, yellow/blue/black...) only good maintenance is important for me.

I saw these cars:

I'm also planning to buy an E36 M3 evo. Prefer the coupe but would consider a nice saloon. Only thing I'm worried about is becasue of their age people think they're chavie. I guess I should man up and not care - epscially when I lay down 321bhp!

Mines been called "The Chavalier" before by a work colleague, but he then admitted that if he could afford the mpgs then he'd own one! I think they look great in stock form, and I aint no chav, no wot I mean!

Of all the reasons NOT to own an M3, the MPG is possibly the worst.
Considering the power available, the economy is little short of astonishing (particularly in Evo form)
This must be the most accessible/ easy to live with performance car out there...

You're not wrong. Never seen mine over 24mpg, although the previous owner told me 30 - yeah, on the back of a truck! And insurance costs as well. £730 with tracker subs and I'm 40!

I had a stunning 420bhp TVR Cerbera that has been - by far - the best car for the money (only got 14-18mpg out of her!). However she cost me £7k in 2 1/2 years of ownership (2nd time round) on repairs and sevicing. In comparitive terms, the Evo has litterally cost me nothing in nearly 3 years. Always started and never missed a beat. I never had to add a drop of oil or water either. 70% of the fun of the TVR for 10% of the costs, and for what, a little over £4k. I just hope the E46 M3 - that I collect today smile - lives up to the Evo regarding fun and reliability.
