A heater that heats ?

To be fair mine does, but whether the control is set on screen or interior hot air only comes out the screen vents. I'd convinced myself the diverter flap must be broken so having got the dash out it wasn't a lot more work to get the heater right out and take a look.
Stripping bits back this far also helped me confirm exactly which vents are connected to what (S3, if yours was built another day may well be different).
Two "eyeballs" on centre console are connected via long flexible tubes to intakes at front of car, so can only supply fresh air, dust and the occaisional dead fly.
Two outlet vents at either end of dash are fed from the screen vent plenum created between the body and dash top moulding.
Two more eyeballs, one in either outer side of footwell should provide some heat to the interior.
Back to the heater itself, sliding the control moves a flap to divert hot air to screen or interior but when in the interior position it doesn't completely close off the screen outlet. So my theory is, because this flap still leaves a substantial gap, the air takes the path of least resistance to the screen vents rather than down about a metre or so of wiggely ducting to the eyeball vent.
The cure ?
Well, I've made a baffle plate and pop riveted it in to help seal off the route to the screen and if this isn't successful I shall do away with the duct to the eyeballs and just have a short piece either side blowing straight into the footwells from behind the centre console area (some cars are like this anyway ?)
Tried to do some pictures but its all too black and mirky to see anything.
Hopefully next Winter I shall have nice warm feet wherever I go.

Mike, on my old S2 there were just 2 dangly pipes hanging in the footwell taking the air from the 'car' position. Nothing as posh as eyeball vents on an S2.
I fitted draft excluder foam to the edge of the car/screen control flap to close up the gap when car was selected. Seemed to push a bit more air into the footwells.
I never did get the continuously variable fan speed controller to work though.

Hi,
in my S3C there is also in every Position hot air to the windscreen.
In Car Position not so much and little to the ground.
Also the elctric vent is not nice, first Position is good for windscreen
but the second Position is noisy and only a little more air.
I thougt to install a frech air (arrives in the middle console) as Input
to the Heater for transporting the hot air by driving like in a normal car.
What you think? Will it be a good way to heat the feed?
