My 10month old 320 was broken into last night . Passenger window smashed, glove box and centre arm rest compartment rummaged through but the alarm did not sound. The car knew something was up as the red alarm indicator light blinked like mad when I opened it this morning.

I've researched that thieves can 'code-grab' to open BMWs without the actual key but this is different as the thief has not opened a door. They elected to smash the window but appear to have disarmed the motion sensors and hence alarm.

Has anyone had similar before I take it up with BMW? Waiting for police to arrive to take prints.

If there is a know 'problem' or easy way to bypass BMW alarms, please do not post detailed info or 'how-to' guides!

Nothing was stolen as I pretty much empty my car each night. I've assumed they were looking for a sat-nav and whoever broke in appears to know what they were doing (bypassed the alarm) so I can't understand why they did not see that the car has sat-nav built into the dashboard! In fact my £200 Ray Bans were left untouched sitting beside the gear stick!

I think you are probably giving the person who did it more credit than is due.
I reckon it was just your average scumbag.

If they could have disabled the alarm I guess they could have opened the door too?

To me, it seems they smashed the window, the alarm activated (LED Flashing this morning)
but did not sound for some reason.. so BMW should check it out.

Yea, it's odd, alarm sounder and cabin pressure/movement sensors work fine as I have since tested them. They did press the BMW Assist 'SoS' button during the break in (cover switch was open) which seems odd. I suspect this may be part of a loophole to override the alarm sounder or pressure/movement sensors.

From a previous and similar situation (smashed window), the Police said that thieves avoid opening the car's door as this almost always activates the alarm.

Taking car to dealer for a double check.

Did the alarm go off but you just didn't hear it?

As above. You either didn't hear it or it didn't work.

Someone smash their window and press the SOS button and see if it cancels the alarm biggrin We much have one generous sole willing to experiment for the greater good ?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it did.
