What could this be questions - suspension problem

Going to have a look at a mates car properly this weekend. A few weeks ago there was a clicking / knocking noise started from the nearside wheel. We turned the steering while the car was stationary and found that when the steering is moved from left to right, the shock absorber is moving in the top mounting a little bit and making a clicking noise.

All I have done is loosened and retightened the top bolt as we haven't had time to look at it so far, but intend to take the whole assembly out this weekend and have a look.

I am confused about what this could be - spring looks ok as far as I can see up there with a torch, and there is not a massive amount of play when we try to move the shock assembly by hand... so hoping for a heads up of what to look for / get ordered for this weekend!

Sounds like the top mount was a problem but the clicking sounds like a CV joint's gone south. I'm assuming the car is FWD?

Yeah it is, not CV joint thankfully.

Went on a couple of Fiat forums, found LOADS of threads on this problem, apparently these Fiats are suffering from this all over the place.

Main stealers are the only place that sells them, luckily only £20 - result
