Winter wheel and tyre planning for my E39 - help!

Having just 'upgraded' from a 330i sport touring to its more sedate and underpowered sibling the 525i sport touring i'm about to get all 4 corners shod with the falken 912 - reviews appear to suggest okay performance and longevity for the price

im also trying to avoid being in the same situation we were last year with the snow; auto socks were crap and car never felt safe with the bak end all over the shop given the PS2's all round...

this year i want to get a spare set of steel wheels with winter tyres but have no idea on size of wheels and offset - current size of tyre of 235/45/17 on the factory fitted cross spoke wheels but i dont know what size until i get the wheels off. any thoughts on suitable winter tyres?

I got a spare set of offset Type 66s from a saloon and am having a set of Toyos put on for summer. I used the standard type 66s which came on the car for a set of Nokian WR G2s which I've had o for th past few months.
