I posted this in GG, but the tumbleweed overwhelmed me. I'm interested in a Stagea specifically, but has anyone got a positive story to tell about the importer they dealt with?

cheers

http://www.jm-imports.co.uk seem to have a good reputation on the various forums I used to frequent, not sure they are the cheapest but they appear to be good on customer service and sourcing decent examples.

Thanks for that; they are convenient for me living near Glasgow, I don't think there are any other importers up north, they all seem to be in Manchester or the southeast. I've emailed them and will see what they have to say.

Out of interest, what kind of price does one pay to import a car through one of these companies? I ask because some of the cars listed in their previous imports look a little pointless - it can't be that hard to find a good MR2, for example, in this country. Surely the cost of importing is only justifiable for a specific car, or if the car is valuable (£10k+) or hard to find over here?

I totally agree with what you are saying, if you can get the car you want over here then that is a lot better, you don’t have the import charge or have to register it!
But I wanted a white J-spec facelift vvti model very hard to find over here.
I basically sent him a list of what I wanted on the car and he would send me pictures every day asking if I like the pictured car, most of the time I said no because I could afford to wait for the perfect one.
In the end he got me what i wanted,
All the mods I wanted plus more, low milage.
Like anything it has its pro’s and con’s.
Plus I am the first uk owner so its never been seen here before.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the importing, and how much was the total? I could see myself importing a car in the future, as I'm a big fan of Jap metal, so I'm interested in what the general costs are like. Does the lower price of Japanese cars offset the cost of import? Is that even relevant now that the pound is so weak compared to the yen?
