Photoshop help required if possible

I have an uncle who is a few days from passing away through cancer. He is involved in planning his funeral.

We have a photograph of him that he and the family wish to use on the "Order of Service" but we would like to "remove" the background or preferably turn it into a plain wall - it currenmtly has picture frames on it.

If there is anyone who can help, I would be very grateful. My attempts to do anything with it make it look like a cardboard cut-out slhouette which is the best I can achieve in standard Windows applications.

I will mail the photo privately if anyone can help.
