The age old question - what exhaust system sounds best??
Discussion
I have a Larini back-box which sounds nice at high revs. Before I took it in for it's MOT yesterday, it also had a nice discreet burbly sound at normal cruising speed...
...turns out that was being caused by a small leak between exhaust and CAT - had to be fixed for MOT and now the lovely 60s MG V8 sound is lost!
So, what are people running on their '5s? What sounds good? Should I invest in a Sports CAT?
Or just remove the CAT altogether now it is through the MOT - the cheap option?

Well I have to say my dads Larini is the best sounding MX5 exhaust i've heard. His does have a supercharger at the other end thou which ups the volume a few notches.
Maybe you just need to add a supercharger?
The FM exhausts also sound amazing, but they cost £$££!
Hi mate, I already have a Supercharger which sounds ace.Maybe you just need to add a supercharger?

I guess I am just missing the sound she made before I put her in for the MOT. Pretty sure I can't replicate it without punching holes in the CAT!
My cousin has just fitted an Klarius exhaust as used in the Ma5da championship-

It sounds rather lovely!
I'm surprised I haven't heard of more guys using them!

Well I've never heard of the brand, and I'm positive it's never been mentioned on Nutz for example, so that's probably why - no-one's really heard of them (pun partly intended)http://www.klarius.eu/Catalogue/ExhaustsampCats/ta...

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your larini system from??? ...turns out that was being caused by a small leak between exhaust and CAT - had to be fixed for MOT and now the lovely 60s MG V8 sound is lost!

And are they quite expensive??

On start up from cold it is discreetly burbly.
When you pull away and hit 2nd and 3rd up to 3k revs (I would not go higher than that from cold) it makes a great raspy noise (not too chavvy).
When it is warmed up this rasp disappears (I wish it wouldn't).
When warm it is quiet when cruising with a slight burble when you come off revs. When you cane it it really opens up with a nice throaty wail.
A very good exhaust.

My dads is exactly the same barring the rasp, his is a lovely bark. Though maybe it's in the 'ear' of the beholder On start up from cold it is discreetly burbly.

His makes a cracking 'brap brap brap brap' when you bounce off the limiter too

You won't have heard of them as up until a couple of years ago they were Timax. Because their products go out to Europe their exhausts are all put through pretty tough testing for quality and emissions. Great bit of kit and you won't go wrong with the sound either!King David said:

Great bit of kit and you won't go wrong with the sound either!Mine has an FM exhaust; not bad, but is certainly a little chavvy at points. Does have a nice burble on idle though, and looks pretty good.
Best exhaust I had was on a 1.1 Citreon Saxo after I tore it off leaving nothing but the exhaust manifold during some impromptu rallying up winter hill in Bolton... sounded awesome.

I got one of the single exit s/s jobbies from MX5parts - it was on some sort of promo price I think so pretty cheap.
I quite like it. Burbles at idle, not too loud below 3k revs so you can be discreet and then a louder 'raspy' metallic sound above that on WOT.
Fitted on very easily as well.
