Any thoughts on material to use to fabricate a grill? I don't know if what remains of mine was original but it looks like mild steel weld mesh which has been glassed into the bonnet. I was wondering if its worth making some lugs to bond to the bonnet and fabricating a removable grill. Were the original grills chrome plated or painted? Also any thoughts on whether the number plate letters significantly impact on engine cooling.

I did mean to talk about my grille in case anybody thought I was into barbecues. Spelling not one of my strengths I'm afraid

The original one on my vixen was a steel mesh , painted black, which was slowly rotting away. I personally would replace with stainless mesh.... Can get it from a majority of stainless fabricators, save buying a big roll of it. Or getting some from the 'boy racer shop at daft prices'.....

You have virtually answered your own question. The original grille material is very similar to the mesh on a portable BBQ grill. It was painted black and I have never found the numbers on the grille caused any problems with cooling

Simple answer is aluminium mesh from B&Q sprayed black. It very ease to work over a timber buck shaped to the air intake.

I have separate numbers on my grill and they do not affect the cooling.

Thanks for all the advice and Paul many thanks for the offer of a piece of stainless mesh. I am looking for a piece 30" x 6" in old money. If you do have any spare please send my an email and let me know how much I owe you.
