garden strimmer
Discussion
I feel your pain, or rather my last strimmer did after I smashed it around the trunk of a tree because I had spent more time turningi t upside down and pulling the cable through than I had actually strimming. It lasted about 15 mins. But it was only a cheapie thing. Get what you pay for I guess!

Unfortunately for £45 I suspect that's what you get. I can see why you don't want to spend the money but all the makes mentioned are good, we also have a Kawasaki which has given sterling service. As a general rule of thumb with strimmers look for one with a straight shaft rather than a curved one as these have a cheaper flexible drive going straight into the strimming head rather than a stronger shaft drive / simple gearbox. Possibly consider a better quality second hand unit?
