996 GT2 or 997 Turbo
Discussion
GT2 though I've not driven the 997t. If the 7t is like the 6t i owned but improved it's still brilliant but in a different direction to the gt2. Like others i've driven my gt2 in the rain and thoroughly enjoyed it on many, many occasions in the 4 years and 20+k miles i've had it.
It's got that specialness that a turbo just doesn't have.
Anyway you shouldn't even be comparing it to a turbo, they're not in the same market. It's more of a super-gt3.

If you're looking at 997T then also consider 997.1 GT3, I think if you drive all three of the cars first you will know which is right for you.
The GTs will feel more special to drive/special to look at, the 996 GT2 will be fastest in a straight line, the 997.1 GT3 will sound the best and is light so will feel more nimble, the 997.1 turbo will feel planted and be quickest point to point on the road and has the back seats, what are you after and what do you want the car to feel like? If you want monumental thrust and a challenge to drive I'd say 996 GT2 would see you with that result (although hard to find a straight good one), if you want something more nimble and newer and want linear n/a power then 997.1 GT3 will fit, if you want an everyday car to abuse and be quick point to point, including in bad weather, 997T is pretty hard to beat.

As directly above, if you can drive then you'll have much more fun in the GT2, if you just want to go (very) fast on the public highway then the 997 is the forward path.
I wonder if Henry has a printout of the over revs on that GT2 that he is willing to post?

Some great comments guys. Turbo definitely seems the car if I was going to go for a daily drive rocket ship, but for those dry days and driving for the sake of enjoying it then the GT2 is the one.
If I could stretch to a 997.1 GT3 I'd have one already :-)
Does anyone know that GT2 at 911 virgin. Happy with the two cars I've bought from them before but looking after a GT2 is going to cost a few pounds more than a Carrera.
Cheers

It should be in great nick after £12k (!) spent on it, but you have to ask why it needed that much in the first place.
You can easily spend 12k on a GT2 just keeping it nice, especially considering it's now 8 years old. I spent around 6k on mine in the 9 months before I sold it, major service, ceramic disc replacements, diverter valves, geometry, suspension components. Not cheap cars to keep in good nick.
