Alternatives to a (E46?) 330d?

Im looking at getting one (I would like a 6-speed 193bhp version but may have to settle for a 5-speed 184bhp engine) but am not a badge snob so would be just as happy with a Skoda for exmaple but saving a few pennies.

Any suggestions?

It would help if we knew what you liked about the e46 330d.

It would certainly stop me suggesting either an MX5 or a Bentley

I'm just in the process of this, and, you'll be annoyed to find that the actual best alternative to the E46 330d is, and a drum roll please................... a E90 330d........ ;-)
