There's mention of a Jaguar F1 test in 2002 where Webber and Alonso tested together in this month's F1 racing but no real details are given (by the author Andrew Benson) although the writer claims that Webber might think Alonso is faster than he is (and by implication, Alonso is thus faster than Vettel)

Anyone know any details about that 2002 Jaguar test and if any conclusions can be drawn from it?

I recall Antonio Pizzonia in particular impressed in testing for Jaguar but that didn't transfer into the 2003 season when partnered by Webber....

I don't think they ever tested together for Jaguar.

Alonso did a test in May at Silverstone. He was already going to Renault for 2013 though.

Webber tested at Barcelona in June.

Two totally different situations so I don't think any real information can be taken from it.

The fact that Christian Klein got a seat says how much info testing achieved.

I don't think that you can draw any current conclusion from tests done nine years ago.

Pizzonia certainly made an impact. And was pretty fortunate to walk away from it.

Thanks - I couldn't find any details and as you say, difficult to draw any conclusions. I think the journalist was probably stretching things a bit unless anyone can clarify in more detail.

Regarding Pizzonia, indeed. I think a calmness under pressure award should go to the journalist who was sitting next to him. smile

I used to work for Jag Racing when MW was there and never heard of Alonso testing with him.

Not sure if they know what they are going about or it was a test that was kept hush hush.

He did test there as I know somebody who has been there since the Stewart days.

"Renault test driver Fernando Alonso tried out Jaguar's R3 Formula One car on Thursday at a wet and windy Silverstone circuit.
The 20-year-old completed 51 laps with a best time less than a 10th of a second faster than regular Jaguar race driver Pedro de la Rosa.

Alonso was third fastest on the day behind Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello and Toyota driver Allan McNish.

Jag already had De La Rosa signed for 2003,little did everyone know was that Pedro's contract was terminated a year early in favour of Mark Webber and Pizzonia.

I was there from stewart too. I just can't remember the bloke ever testing with them. stfights were a plenty back then so I probably blanked out most of that stuff at that time. What's your mates name? Does he still work at RB? Feel free to PM it to me.
