Weekend away... with young children

I'd like to book a weekend away for 2 adults and 2 children (6 and 4) for a few weeks time.
Center Parcs would be the obvious (if expensive) option, and we've done it before and the kids (in fact all of us) will be happy.
Can anyone suggest any alternatives within a couple of hours drive of north London/Herts before I book the obvious?
