I Know it's wokingham rather than Reading, but http://www.forestmot.co.uk/ are the best in the area IMHO.

I use them for my cars, and my vans at work, and they are astonishingly good. Very, very honest - they did some work recently on a van of ours, quoted a price. I got there to pay for it, and the old chap that runs the place said 'Theres been a slight change to the price, it was only half an hour labour rather than the hour quoted'. I know its only a case of £30 or so, but its the little things like that that have added up over using them for the past few years that make us go back every time.

Most of the other MOT places I have tried in the area just seem to escalate/change their charges depending on what they feel like....

ETA - I'm not affiliated with Forest in any way at all, it's just service like that is worth telling people about

I started a similar thread recently and had a few different suggestions. I went to James autos in Sindlesham in the end as a friend of a friend owns it.

They were very friendly and couldn't recommend them highly enough

We used Thames Valley MOTs in Loverock Road - 0118 956 00 44. Nice guys, very honest (I asked them to do some work for me, they underquoted the amount of time needed but still charged me the price they originally quoted), and they're seriously into their motorsport as well. smile

Funny how we all have differing experiences and opinions. They are the nearest to me geographically, and probably the very furthest away in terms of my desire to give them one, single, solitary penny.

I take mine up to Newton Car Services in Henley. It was recommended a few years ago and I have been impressed ever since.

It's the little things like not charging to fill up the window washer (which would otherwise fail the MOT) that have kept me going back.

Just in front of Munich Motors, yes.
In fact Wokingham MOT have a new bay next door to Munich too, and can now do bike MOTs as well smile

Just to add to Pete's recommendation for Wokingham MOT. Passed the Chim first time and were friendly on the phone and in person!
Had my 205 done by James Autos in Sindlesham and would be happy to recommend them too. Although the woman who did the MOT didn't even smile when I did a Ribenna Berry "Woop" jump after finding it had passed!

I found a great little place just north of reading.... website gives a map www.mot-test-reading.co.uk as it’s a little off the beaten track ... anyway helped me with the MOT quite understanding of an older car .. Unlike some I have used.... tea was free...

Just used this thread to find someone in the local area to do a last minute saturday MOT. Went to James MOT and was very happy with the service. Professional and quick and the car past with no advisories. Definitely recommend them smile

Anchor vans in Tadley - and only £30. Put 2 cars through this year, and 2 passes. The Fiesta diesel failed the exhaust part, so they took it for a trip around the block to clean things up and it passed 2nd time. No extra charges smile

They are also quoting me half the price of a certain SBS PHer for my Mazda 75k service (Cambelt change)
