Taxed, taxed, taxed...

We've just had a tax rise to pay for the NHS, now we're to be taxed again...

Is it just me or does anyone think the old tax and spend days are back?

Makes my blood boil. Extra tax for NHS. Yet more extra tax on NHS.

The NHS is a fundamentally good thing but since it takes about EIGHT years to train new medical staff we're not likely to see any improvement for the next two Govt terms.

And the damn stuff that would make any difference (getting more Nurses and Doctors into training) doesn't cost all that much. So why the damn tax increase now?

My prediction is our dear Govt will FAIL to spend the money. And if they manage to spend it it'll be on high publicity. high profile equipment that won't benefit anyone.

NHS needs more medical staff. Start training them now. Eight years later employ them. In the meantime don't tax me out of existence. Jesus.

Rant mode off now.

Agreed... there'll be no real improvement by the next election, but the publicity machine will make sure that Blair is elected again nonetheless..

IMO The only cause for hope is that Blair (with help from Blunkett) seems to be dragging the party ever to the right on the back of public opinion on Crime & Immigration.. get rid of Brown and the jobs half done.. before you know it they realy could be New Conservatives...

Looks like a big hike in car insurance in the offing then. Which will of course mean even more money going into the government's coffers thanks to insurance tax...

They are spending it already on the cars are bad campaign. Saw an ad on the back of one of those bus thingies the other day saying road accidents cost a fortune for the NHS so slow down. This was presumably looking to take care of 2% of the accidents, perhaps the NHS will be campaigning against numpties as well soon to sort out the other 98%.

Why dont they just attribute every single penny of tobacco and alocohol duty (the two biggest causes of illness in the UK I believe) to the NHS?

Thats way more than they need, and the excess could be used to actually pay the Nurses the money they deserve.

Matt.

Why don't they just say '8000 accidents in the home are caused by boiling kettles each year, so stop drinking tea'

Puhlease...

Statisticians anticipate a 10 fold increase in people running into the back of buses whilst reading advertising slogans..

If they dropped the ban on Tobacco advertising & removed all the restrictioons on it the extra tax raised from it would sort the NHS & pensions easily. (IIRC the average smoker contributes several times the amoung in tobacco tax than he'll ever take out of the system)

I hope they extend this scheme to include all the injured sportsmen who clog up the hospitals on every weekend with some self inflicted sprain. And tax B&Q to pay for all the numpty diy addicts who stick a screwdriver through their hand whilst trying to make a mansion with a bit of MDF who also seem to take root in casualty. And pay particular attention to the "I slipped whilst naked hoovering and got my dick sucked in to the hoover" acident victim and make them pay on the spot for the treatment or sell the video to you been framed to cover the cost. And finally put a big tax on the BNP to pay for all the racial attacks. If they do all this then I guess we accept the motorist being hammered again.

Good topic, B&Q What about all the numpties who take their kids to the big B&Q playground every weeking to do running about thingy while not looking where they are going. Serious injury pottential there. Could be useful in the Olympics though, especially when "Running with Vimto on a white carpet" for under fives becomes a medal event.
