I don't know what wkstain of a recording company exec let this go on the shelves, but it is possibly the worst cover song I've ever heard. As usual, Heart FM think it's the best thing since Xanadu by Sharleen Spitari.

The New Order Version one is awesome, I don't know why George Michael had to sing along to it like he's on mushrooms in a submarine with a terrible backing track.

What do you guys think. Just wanted to vent at how bad it was really.

Its st. Lots of autotune on a vocalist who used to be as good as he was suggest his cords have gone. Probably smoking too much. (that's the truth & not a dig.)

Not sure(I don't mean about being awful, it is). The autotune is so obvious that he may be "making a point" about other artists that use it. In the process of doing so he massacred the song though. Even in his present state, he could have done a very respectable cover version of True Faith.

It’s shocking. I honestly believe that there should be a musical equivalent of ‘English Heritage’ to stop crap covers of iconic songs. I did enjoy spoiling my mates day though as he had not heard it and he is a massive joy division fan...

George had so many cover options – Jailbreak, jail house rock, Folsom prison blues etc. I guess The Kinks would not let him do ‘Holloway jail’

EFA the only London prison song I could think of! I'm pretty sure he was in Pentonville for a little bit, obviously not Holloway but to be honest he would have been no trouble there smile

Mid weeks suggest it could be the worst selling Comic Relief song evah. Its struggling to even make the Top 40. Maybe his cameo performance tonight may help a bit but I wonder if its the song or peoples general feelings towards Comic Relief this year?

Is it auto-tune though or does he do the whole thing with a vocoder?

I don't like it, I don't like that production style. But, I do like George Michael's voice and I'm a massive New Order fan... but, for me, this slowed-down cover really doesn't work. However, since we're looking at a nigh-on 25 year old song (!!) and an artist whose zenith was arguably at the same time, what more can we expect?

Awful. Reminded me of this, which is a whole lot better - and funnier.

I thought it was a comedy track for Red Nose Day - is it serious?

George Michael was easily good enough to have done a banging cover of this tune, what is this plodding auto tuned rubbish we're being served? The song thrives on that driving dance beat, which is now gone!

Well said; he does have a good voice, can be a very good musician, but he's sucked every bit of life from a truly fantastic track.

He must have been high throughout the whole recording/production session. Actually, he's probably high 99% of the time these days .... ?
