Hi,

have sold the murci as have a little one planned for the end of the month - therefore needed a something with seats in the back for while (apparently it's illegal in the UK to put a child's car set in the engine bay...?? Health and safety gone mad...)

Was contemplating getting a Bentley GT - wondered if anyone has owned one - what are they like to drive/own?

Also, anyone have any views on whether the older (manual) LP560s will hit 100K mark by Jan next year?

Great cars, solid and very quick for there weight. You can get a used car Bentley warranty on them if your worried about potential big bills. New model due out later this year so dont pay over the odds for one. Friends one averaged 18mpg on the daily commute, rear seats enough space for adults on a short trip.

If its a short term buy then the following makes sense as i doubt you would lose much on it:-

It's an easy car to own/drive. If comfort and the back seats are important, then you'll love it.

No way of getting a really early Conti for a bit less money and keeping the Murci for weekends? wink

I went for a test drive in one (for about an hour or so) and found it one of the most uncomfortable cars I had ever been in...just my opinion but it would definitely be worth sitting in one for a while before committing to buy.

Also worth considering a Maser Grantourismo at this price - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2318249.htm

I bought a GTC speed a few months ago, lovely cars.

Had contiplated buying the azure or Brooklands, but after driving all three i went for the Conti. The Conti feels world apart from the rest of the Bentley range ( not tested the mulsanne).

I did drive the GT a fair bit, i cant fault them. Obviously different to a sports car feel.

But reviewing the car in its own right: Its very luxurious, easy to driver and a great cruiser. Speed wise: well as mine is the speed, i think it 600hp or so, so its shockingly fast when you think who big the car is. The back seats are small and suitable for only short journeys or small kids. Very useable every day and i love the look of both the GTC and GT.

I think they offer great value, and if you take a look at the 4 door Conti you can pick up a real bargin and a lot of car for not so much money.

many thanks.

As it's only going to be for 1 year, i didnt want to fork out loads (as i see they drop quite a bit in depreciation as well) - so was thinking 40-50K-ish...

Im also not ready to be a gentleman, so probably wanted a garish colour and silly alloys (without looking like a drug dealer if thats possible...)

Forgot to say- congrats to you and Ladybluf

Did you ever consider an S65 AMG? Really overlooked car in my opinion, much more comfortable and a hell of a lot faster then a Bentley GT.
Fuel wise I find the Bentley GT terrible, average 13mpg. S65 average about 20mpg on same roads, style of driving ect. Really, go and drive one, you will be amazed!

Have a look at the maser gt s, the auto one if possible. Ran an mc shift gearbox one for a year and loved it. Wonderful noise and more useable room in the back than the bentley. I didn't get on too well with the gearbox near the end of the year as it started juddering a bit. Dealers were saying that clutch needed changing about every 12k miles so if you can get a full auto gt s maybe best of both worlds.

As for the bentley I'm running a speed now and it is a very good car too! Only problem is the fuel consumption can get a bit silly and having to run 98 Ron fuel can get a bit expensive. A new continental gt is around the corner but the speed and supersports models won't be available straight away so maybe will hold prices better. Having said that I've lost 30k to dealer after one year on an 08 model car! The drop has to stop somewhere!

many thanks,
13mpg...? That sounds very cheap and eco friendly coming out of a Murci!
I find the s65 amg a bit too civilized and finance director-like. The Masers just dont do it for me.

thanks,

Test drove the GT Monday, bought Maserati Quattroporte Friday. There simply is not enough space in the back of the GT - legs tolerable; headroom is the no no. brushing the headline with your head @ 5 10

The salesman falling out the car trying to get out the back seats didn't help! He had got in to demonstrate the headroom!

ok thanks - i guess, unless by baby girl comes out and has a quick growth spurt - back should be ok - or though i guess there is trouble brewing in trying to get a baby seat in there to begin with!

To be totally honest, the back seats have never been sat in in the Bentley, one thing that really, really, really, really, really, really upsets me is the locking mechanism on the seats when I fold them forward to clean back there, they always un-lock and flip back with a rapid motion, and believe me, the back of them seats are hard! Ask my temple that hurt for a week once. On the plus side, the boot is bigger that a QP so baby accessories will be well catered for...
