Can anyone give me some pointers on how to hang some small pictures (say a 12" sq, wood frame with glass) on the inside face of an external wall in our tanked basement?

I don't really know how the tanking works, but I'm obviously keen to avoid compromising it by, say sticking a nail through it.

Will the tanking be on the very outside face of the wall, so I can use short nails with picture hooks, or can I get away with gluing (no more nails?) the hooks to the wall - the inside surface is plastered with paint over the top.

Perhaps a Duzzit Handy Hanger will work?

You want some of these:

The pins only protrude 5mm or so into the wall.

3M do some good products for this (we live in a stone house so drilling holes is a nightmare). Have a look at http://www.3m.co.uk/intl/uk/command_strips/picture...

We've used both the hook versions and the velcro type, nothing's come off the wall yet (we do follow the instructions!).

ETA: the velcro ones are good as you can just use more on larger pics

I've not seen that ad before. Did they actually run that or is it a mock-up?

They normally come in packs of assorted picture hooks from B&Q (other DIY sheds are available). I've used them quite successfully on plasterboard despite them being "for hard walls".

The 3M sticky ones are ace. We've rented a few flats and can confirm they'll peel off with no marks too!

If its small stuff consider a hotmelt glue gun. Easy to remove as well, but will take the paint off
