Are you planning on taking the M25 from the M11 or around the North Circ? Don't use the North Circ, roadworks on it at Southgate causing delays every day.
The M25 has roadworks still I think on the North side from junc 21. Allow plenty of time.

This ^^^

The road works around the M1 junction are either ok (at best) or very very bad. it only takes an accident, and you'll potentially be sat there quite a while. Take into account you'll be there at the worst time of the day too

Are you picking someone up or flying?

If the latter, you might want to consider staying overnight near to the airport and then leaving your car at the hotel. The parking prices are generally cheaper at the hotel than at the airport.

at that time of the morning is it viable to come off the M25, go down the A1 and then around the North Circular A406 to the M4, rather than plodding around the M25?

Where are you driving from? I do this journey several times a week from Suffolk.I never take the M11 and keep off as much of the M25 as I can that time of day.PM me if you want some alternatives which usually work.
