Its Friday night. Alcohol plays a part I reckon.I saw a yellow one in Manchester and it looked very plain. I think metallic colours bring it out a bit more?
Personally i think the vast majority of cars, and especially supercars do look better in photographs. But what we have to remember is that the photos are taken by professional photographers using dramatic lighting and fabulous backdrops. This sets the scene for a car thus creating a bit of an anti climax when you see such a poster car pottering along a grey and mundane piece of traffic in the middle of nowhere.
A few months ago, HR Owen popped their 458 demonstrator across the North Circ. to the Ace Cafe for those of us attending a Petrolhead Nirvana meet to have a good look at.
Personally, I believe that it looks stunning. There was some serious metal in the Ace car park that night. Frankly, IMO, the 458 out shone everything else there.
A few weeks later I saw a black one at H.R.Owens, waiting for its owner. An incredibly beautiful machine.

It works both ways I find. I never used to think much of the Carrera GT until I saw one in the metal, and then you realise how purposeful it looks. I think perspective and lighting make a huge difference. Another one that fell into that category is the new Jaguar XJ, which I didn't much like when I first saw the photos, but it has something about it when you see it driving that makes it stand out.I think the new Mclaren also will also fall into this category, although I've not seen one yet. To me, the 458 looks a bit like a caricature of what a pretty car should be.
