Crash damaged repairables - any experiences?

Has anybody here dealt with Dean TVR - the company that sell damaged repairable TVRs here and on eBay?

They offer to repair as well. Seems like a cost effective way to get into a TVR, but is it really? I'd be interested to hear good or bad experiences.

They have a yellow Chim up for sale - not damaged that I was thinking about having a look. Must say though the pics of it sat in a scrap yard sort of put me off

was recently in a auction house as i believe was a repo, there is a thread on here somewhere about it. assume dean won the auction

Not crash damaged, but I know of a Cerbera available with no engine and in need of some rennovation work. Probably under £5k. PM me if interested.

The general rule of thumb when buying from a scrap man is to buy with your eyes open and also to realise that you are paying over the odds when they specialise in what you want. There are many many horror stories with punters being ripped off with 'cheap' TVR's and you will get zero redress.

I bought mine there, it is a cat C. I had my eyes wide open, and it worked for me, however you really need to do the sums. There are some great cars around at the moment and I sometimes wished I'd picked up a loved private car with a rebuild but at the time there weren't. I will rebuild mine at some stage and I knew that.

I wrote off my mk1 Tuscan in 2009.
I was told it was sold in auction to scrap yard who then sold it as a repairable.
I always felt that it was a pity the buyer never contacted me as I had a whole load of information on the car.
Engine rebuild details, throttle body upgrade, shocks, the list goes on to well over 20 k pounds of loving attention.
Is it possible to locate a new owner through the reg plate ?
Anyway point is, if your lucky, you may find a gem with only plastic damage.

I have a car from them and its fantastic never had a problem in 3 years and saved loads of money on the list price but maybe salvage is not for every on, you need to know what your doing!

Nothing really to do with the car, a few niggles but no more than paying 5k more. It was always my intention to rebuild it myself, paint it and do the interior. I will end up spending a bit of money on it. Having said that it had a lot of stuff already done, bigger brakes, new rad, great interior, cool knob, decat, sleeved cans (now buggered thanks to a pot hole) and anderson socket disconnected but not removed.

When I bought my house (derelict) everyone said I was mad. However when people buy houses, they decorate, change the bathroom and the kitchen. I would say it was the same with my TVR. Part of the fun for me was doing all the work and getting it how I like it, almost better than the factory. However it is not for everyone and you need to do the sums for yourself.

It is a personal choice, but buying a car with a rebuild/known history is always going to be a safer and less risky.

i am glad to here your happy , it was much the same for me , i bought the car with the intention of sorting the paint work after the repair my self and a few mechanicle things and it all turned out great , and i get a smile every time i drive it knowing i saved £5000 grand on the car

I think i am about ready to buy another car from the same people, i see they have a few tvr tuscans in stock and i hope to pop over there and see them and try and have a deal with my car against a later model

Saved 5k against another cat car or against a non cat car. If the latter then is this a saving or just the value of said car.
