Please help me choose my team for my works F1 Competition

Each year, my company does an F1 competition for fun.

What I need to do to enter is choose a minimum of 2 teams and 2 drivers from the below list.
Each team and driver has a 'cost' and I cannot go above £49million.

Teams:
Ferrari - £20m
Red Bull - £21m
Mclaren - £18m
Mercedes - £17m
Renault - £12m
Williams - £11m
Sauber - £10m
Force India - £8m
Torro Rosso - £8m
Lotus - £6m
Virgin - £4m
HRT - £2M

Drivers:
Vettel - £12m
Alonso - £11m
Hamilton - £10m
Webber - £8m
Button - £7m
Massa - £7m
Schumacher - £7m
Rosberg - £7m
Heidfeld - £5m
Petrov - £5m
Barichello - £5m
Kobayashi - £5m
Sutil - £5m
Perez - £4m
Di Resta - £4m
Maldonado - £4m
Buemi - £4m
Alguersari - £4m
Kovalainen - £3m
Trulli - £3m
Glock - £3m
D'Ambrosio - £2m
Karthikeyan - £1m
Liuzzi - £1m

As you can see from the costs above - some choices work out very cheap. So I have no idea as to if its best to pick more teams and drivers at low cost, or just stick to the more expensive ones and have less of them.

A new thing for this year to help if a tie break situation arises, is that once we have selected our choice of teams and drivers, we then need to select 1 race which will double the points scored for my choices on that particular race.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I took part in this for the first time last year and did terribly (came last out of 30 other guys)

Can you have one team and both drivers?

i.e

Red Bull 21m

Vettel 12m

Webber 8m

= 41m

Or do you have to pay for the team twice, once for each driver?

My nine year old son would be genius at working this out statics wise - he's just been nominated for a private school maths academy and is an F1 history walking fact file!

I think he would encourage you to choose Rubens Barichello as one of your drivers. He's consistant and statistically a good bet. I'll email him your conundrum and see what he thinks.

He knows all the race team/driver positions over the past 50 odd years!!

You can have the drivers from the same team that you choose, but you must have a minimum of 2 teams and 2 drivers still...

So you couldnt pick the choices above, as you wouldnt have enough money left over for an additional team... this is where it gets tricky

Again, this is where my boy knows which cars are better on which tracks - he was pretty much spot on with his predictions last year. Am sure he said Red Bull were going to out do everyone at one particular track and Mclaren at another, which they did, or something like that, I just cant remember where and who, I just know he was right. All his facts become, dare I say it, tiresome after a while!

I think that's a good team, although i was considering Renault instead of Williams, but Heidfeld and Petrov are still inexperienced drivers, so Williams is the better option i think.

Drivers are a good choice too.

With this team I would suggest you double up on one of the slower circuits, like Monaco or maybe Valencia, as these are where the Red Bulls perform better because the cars are suited to slower tracks without so many straights. But I would personally definitely choose Monaco. - Last year was a Red Bull 1, 2. Barrichello would have done well at Monaco last year if he hadn't hit the drain cover.

The other team I would consider would be; Mclaren, Williams, Hamilton, Barrichello and Kobayashi. This comes to £49 m.

With the second team choice I would choose to double up at Spa because this is where Barrichello won his first pole and Mclaren cars perform well here (along with Red Bull and Ferrari). It is a faster circuit with some straights and tight corners. It is my favourite F1 track too.

The OP said he can choose a 'minimum' of two teams and drivers ?? And the only stipulation is that it must cost no more than £49million.

OP, you're going to have to clarify the rules! Is it a minimum of 2+2 or only 2+2.

My mistake for not carefully reading the first post, but in my experience of picking a fantasy team there are rules to how many individual components you can buy. However if it is just a work game, you will be correct.

If it is a minimum (i.e. allowed more than 2 drivers) then Elias has made a very good suggestion.

Schumacher and Alonso

although, in my own fantasy F1, I have substituted Petrov for Alonso, 'cos I know something most of you don't and if I told you what it was, I would have to kill MYSELF!

We do this every year at work. Seems like it gets harder every year. There is only 1 man though that constantly brings the points home and that is Rosberg. Im a bit doubtful about this team!

Ive splashed most of my money in a couple of slots. So the bottom half of my team is fairly poor.
The Vettel Barrichello combo is a good choice though. A friend that works at Cosworth is suggesting that Williams will have a good punt this year.
