Oak kitchen worktops

Nearly finished sorting the kitchen and it's time to fit some new worktops. I really like the look of oak and am looking at fitting some. One question though is how do they hold up to the day to day abuse in a kitchen? Mainly areas round the sink and food prep/spills.

Also does anyone know anywhere close to the Wirral that sells them for a reasonable price and also supply lengths at 3.5 to 4 meters as I really don't want to put a join in halfway down the surface.

I fitted some a while ago for my mum.

Few coats of Danish oil and they are standing up extremely well. No stains or marks, even in wet areas.

I got them on-line from www.woodworktops.com

No issues with them at all (except the bloody weight of a 4m length)

Oh and any offcuts or waste (sink cutouts) etc, cut into chopping blocks.

We had quite a bit left over. My mum had 2 and I sold another 4 on eBay for £25 each

No matter what you treat them with, I would always wipe up any standing water round the sink (you know the bit behind the taps) because *eventually* it will stain.

fantastic, we much prefer it over stone, as you can just sand it once a year, re-treat, and its new again

Had it fitted in our old house in 2002, and since moved, but still using the offcut chopping blocks today nearly 10 years later...great VFM
