Hi

My one year old X5 has just developed an annoying rattle from what sounds like a part of the trim in the boot. It comes from one side only when I go over a bump and sometimes when turning. I've had a look and nothing obviously out of place etc. Is this something that anyone else has experienced?

Thanks

Sometimes the parcel shelf can cause rattles, you could try it without this in for a bit and see if it makes a difference. Failing that I would take it to the dealer and get them to sort it under your warranty.

This unfortunatley is part and parcel of any car which can develop little rattles and creaks as it ages. You'll need to try and isolate exactly where the rattle is coming from, perhaps look at the load cover as on my E39 I had something similar, semi fixed it by giving it a good rattle and clean out of dust etc, no idea why or what cuased it.

The hard part will be isolating it whilst driving around trying to make the sound happen, so you'll need to try that and preferably with someone crawled in the boot area listening out and pressing and prodding various bits of trim to see if that stops the noise.

Cheers, Dennis!

Have you checked the jack, under the floor behing the spare wheel. Mine works loose occasionally, the easy way to get to it, is to fold a rear seat forward after moving the cover to the rear.

I got a result by adjusting one of the rubber stops on the tail gate.

To find the rattle I used my daughter lying on her back in the boot as I drove along.

When she pushed her foot on the tailgate the rattle stopped.

Thanks for the replies.

I think it is the tailgate, how did you adjust the rubber stops?

Loosen the torx screw a bit then rotate the rubber stop anti clockwise a couple of turns.
Re-tighten the screw and test.

thanks for the responses, actual cause was the rear seat. Some paint had come off the hinge causing it to not clip into the folding rear seat properly making a rattle. Just in case anyone else experiences the same, it was solved by some felt tape.
