For anyone thinking of buying an older Mx5 -I can't praise Steve Bloxam [Goodwood Sportscars Berwick] highly enough .
He specialises in the marque and was really excellent in fidning me the right car at the right price and
was up front about the plus and minus points wrt the car .
I ended up buying a Mk1 1991 Eunos V special from him and had a few annoying issues after I bought it .
When I told him about the problems I was having he just said take the car your local garage ,
get it all sorted out to your stasifaction, and then send me the bill and I will reimburse you .
I didn't have to argue or justify my case -he seemed genuinely concerned that everything wasn't just right with the car.
Good to his word he reimbursed me promptly with good grace and even applologised for the hassle .
I would definitely buy another car from Steve and would be happy to recommend him to anybody on the forum -there
aren't many honest traders out there with this sort of attitude in my experience .
It has restored my faith in good old fashioned decency and service .
Cheers

I'm glad he's sorted you out... that's to be commended.

But if I was buying from a 'specialist' dealer I would expect any and all issues to be sorted pre-sale. Without exception.

Well to be fair he did a huge amount to the car before I bought it to get it properly sorted ,and he genuinley believed he'd sorted out any issues .
Moreover it was 2 months after I bought the car when most dealers would just laugh in your face ,so I dont think you can be fairer than that IMHO .
All i'm saying is that it's nice to recommend this type of fair and honest specialist dealer when i have had bad experiences in the past -so for that reason i'm genuinely delighted to recommend him without reservation to anybody on the forum .

In which case, that's better than it sounded in the first place smile

I tried to buy a car from him in Dec 2009 and got fed up waiting for return calls about cars that were due in, or needed work first, or had just been sold. In fairness he was always pleasant when I could get hold of him, and did seem to know his stuff, but that in itself was no use to me whatsoever.

I know naming and shaming isn't techincally allowed but honest balanced feedback should be if the good comments are permitted!

Well I have to say that's definitely not my experience in dealing with Mr Bloxham -so i'm guessing you must have caught him at a bad time for whatever reason ....
To be fair it appears that he usually sells his cars very quickly and often even before they go up on his web site in my experience .
I gave him an exact brief in terms of what I was looking for in terms of spec and condition and he gave me sound advice about which cars were suitable or not .
Also I have found him really excellent to communicate with -he's always happy to chat in detail about his cars and it's very evident that he is a complete Mx5 fanatic -in fact i'd almost go as far as to say he's bit OCD about his cars -indeed you can tell from his disciptions on the Goodwood web site which go into immense detail on each car -that's what appealed to me in the 1st place .For example when you look on Dandycars there is only sketchy information on any given car and the salesmen often dont know when you ask them about a particular spec or history on their cars -and what's more their cars are a lot more expensive pro-rata than similar cars at Goodwood .
