Did you purchase your current car because of car magazine ?

I had a boggo Panda in Sardinia as a hire car a couple of years ago, the thing was an absolute blast around the mountain roads in the south of the island, I swear I would not have swapped it for anything else on those roads, it felt so right and I fell in love with it. I said to the wife at the time I would have one as my own car.
I did a lot of reading up about the 100HP version in various mags and websites and was pleasantly surprised at how highly rated it was. I did have 2 good test drives though before I signed on the dotted line. I did wobble a bit before buying, a bit afraid that I was being overly influenced by Evo reviews of it, but the truth is, I wanted that car since first hitting the open roads outside Cagliari a year and a half beforehand.
I used the mags as a research tool but it was the car itself that sold it, not what others said.

The issue I have with magazine reviews is that a car that can excel on a blast over Welsh countryside but may be useless on a commute. I found this with both my Renaultsports to a certain degree. I find the long term tests more useful when looking at what a car will be like to own. It doesn't stop me from reading every review I can get my hands on though. I also like it if I can find performance test results (especially in group tests!).

Not a lot has been said about my car (recently anyway) but the latest model of the Cupra R was tested in EVO recently, and was the quickest in the test around the track and, they thought, quickest on the road too, but the least fun in the group because it "lacked the steering feel the others had" or something like that. I will have a search on their website and see what other cars they put it in against.
I was after a Clio 182, a car that motoring journalists generally love and with good reason, but when it came down to the buying time the Cupra R was not much more expensive and I thought, offered a lot more car for the cash I was paying.

Bought mine because of seeing it consistently high in all reliability surveys. 9 years on, it hasn't disappointed.
Most of the car mag reviews about it seemed pretty fair.
No ridden enough bikes to know any different, but the bike reviews of my bike have been cock on. Needed a "big" first bike. Bought the one they all raved about it, now I do.
