Hi guys, bit of advice here, the cars in for a new windscreen on the 29th of this month I am aware that it is a good idea to remove the carbon side strips before she gets there is their any thing else I need to look for before it goes in.
Please no horror stories the thought of it is bad enough.

when mine was done they said they wedged a piece of 4 by 2 from the floor to the ceiling to sop the roof from sagging when the old screen was removed.

Don't worry it's a very straight forward job, just check round afterwards for dirty finger marks on the roof lining and screen pillars etc, these marks ( if there are any) are normally smudged screen adhesive which once cured are a bd to remove, so get them off early.

Unless you know the person who will do your screen knows just what he's doing and has experience then I would take it elsewhere to someone who has because the screens are not easy to put in. They require offering up in a 'dry run' to check the fit which one wouldn't with a mass produced car. I'm only wtiting from what I've heard although I did have a screen put in and I wasn't too happy with the result. The experienced bloke was busy when the screen went in, nuf said.

The (06/08) bill was £275 for the screen and £200 labour, although, under insurance I payed just £70 of it.

The car is going into autoglass depot in Swansea as nearest depot. Tried a couple of other outfits but they replied with unable to locate a new screen. Took a while but they did ask about black band around screen whether 50mm or 30mm after I put them onto Power who had one in stock. Going through insurance £75.00.

As a general rule, this should be standard in most cases, but as you rightly say, standard production cars + experienced installer etc. But with the Trevors, Porsche, Lotus, Ferrari, Lambo etc., the dry run is good practice and one of the signs of a good installer.

Best of luck with the replacement. As far as not watching them, I personally have no issue with inviting the customer/owner to watch or take pictures. In instances where the owner is not around, I always take pics and email them through to assure them that the bits they don't see were not damaged.

Mine ('98 Mk1) has a chip in it and the Milky Screen of Death. Keep meaning to get a new screen but have so far convinced myself that I'd wait till the chip got bigger or was added to. That was 5 years ago

Business is registered in N/London (Herts EN4) but everything I do is mobile. For when a workshop is needed, I also have some good contacts who can arrange some space in their workshops.

In terms of coverage, I cover quite a large area, but for the areas I don't I can recommend trusted associates who do.
