Economist, May 08-14, pg. 36

Article title as per topic, with picture of camera being torched, caption 'Road Rage'

"The mere presence of cameras slows traffice: death and injuries drop on average by 35% where they're installed"

"Critics like to cite a study by ... TRL ... which, they say, showed that speed was to blam in only 7% of accidents, not the one-third claimed by the safety lobby"

"Cameras are sited sensibly"

Surprising tabloid style journalism, together with lack of reasearch and balance, one for safespeed ...

I found this:

www.economist.com/displaystory.cfm?story_id=S%27%2984%28Q%21%23%20%23P%23%2C%0A

But it's "premium content" - you have to pay to access it. Anyone got a subscription?

Or send me a scan?

I'll look out for it in newsagents too.

Thanks for the heads up.

I will send you a hardcopy if you do not buy the Economist in a newsagent, which might be informative to compare how much effort they put into other articles - in general they do bother to research

This isn't the first time they've praised cameras; they did it about a year ago, too. And didn't publish my letter criticising the innumerate nature of their article.

Recall the Economist 'Mr Toad' article you refer to, which again was a break from the normal practice of well researched articles, which hesitate to impose the state on individuals for no good reason. Sorry to hear they did not publish your letter.
