Car Sales Executive - Assessment Day
Discussion
Hello Drew, hope you are well? Sold the RS yet? My advice is to just listen, don't go on about modifying cars etc or anything that makes you sound big headed. Get the impression across that you want the opportunity, you should have done a bit of product knowledge on Robins & Day? History etc! Local competition is also a good point! Ask loads of questions....etc how march has gone sales wise, find out who's been there a while and knows the ropes and just start chatting! Just be yourself mate! Best of luck

I'm in Service.. But for Sales, err.. Not much.
Nah, follow up calls, walk-in customers, telephone customers, internet customers, arranging handovers, arranging car prep, prospecting (3 year old customers ready to change), forecourt maintenence (moving cars around etc), making the showroom look decent, making coffee.. Stuff like that.
I helped run several assessment days for a very big motor group when I worked 'In The Trade'.
There were a variety of tasks such as;
Logic tests
General Grammar
General Arithmetic
Problem Solving
Team Working
The killer punch was an impromptu interview with the recruitment company that was used to run the days. The woman that did the interviews deliberately went out of her way to cause as much suffering as possible, she was a right moron.
Do you know if R+D are running the assessment themselves or have they got an outside agency doing it?
ETA; Just act normally, there wasn't really a pass or fail where the tests were concerned, the main object of the exercise was to eradicate the absolute w
kers that just like the sound of their own voice.
Just try and fit in with the group and make positive contributions where you can. You wouldn't believe the people that started stand up arguments with their potential colleagues in front of their potential bosses!

It will probably have nothing to do with actual cars.
I've done a few "assessment days" and they're usually designed to see how you work in a team / on your own and how you handle issues etc.
Don't be the one that sits in the corner, you need to get noticed, but don't be the arrogant cocky one who thinks he know's it all. (I fell in to the latter catergory about 5 years ago when going for a sales job!).
