Easy one this one. Pick four cars in total that you could have bought with the SAME budget that had when you bought your current car.

To spice things up a bit, I think something old, something new, something awful and something blue would be fitting. I shall start...

My current steed

And I could have had;
Something old

Something new

something awful
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/814922.htm

and something blue

Could you have done any better/worse?

My current car:

So the same choices as op biggrin

I remember being torn between a Golf GTI, a 3.2 A3, an Astra VXR, or even an Impreza WRX before I got my 120d. In the end the head won over the heart and I got something I'd enjoy while still being relatively sensible.

Well seeing as i paid a whopping £300 for this, the other choices would be somewhat 'limited' and certainly nowhere near as much fun!

What I have... 2011 Megane Coupe

Something Old... 996 Carrera 2 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2593964.htm

Something New... A1 S-Line 1.4 TFSI http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2521310.htm

Something Awful... Kia Sorento 2.2 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2530811.htm

Something Blue... 1600 Classic http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2563324.htm

Still prefer the Megane as I can't get insured on the others at my age, besides the A1!

Fun thread ...

OK 370Z bought for $170,000

Struggled on New as i seem to be at a bit of a hole in the market so its either this BMW 318i at $145,000 or this RR Phantom Drop Head Coupe at $1,388,888 yikes

Old - Merc 230SL (1964) Shame its on a classic plate so can only be driven 28 days a year!

Sporty (and possibly ugly with those wheels) Maser Spyder 4.2

And something blue, an Audi A5 2.0TSI

exchange rate SGD2.0 / GBP1.0

edit to add had a look at what i would get for teh same money in the UK!

Blue 997 Turbo Cab

Bad streach hummer and blinged hummer

New Audi RS6 Avante

and old (ish) a 2008 Audi R8

There are some plus sides to the UK Evidently!

Are my maths failing me? SGD2.0 / GBP1.0 = $170k = £85k for a 370Z?!

I too very nearly got in to a 370Z roadster, seeing how rare they are I do kind of regret not going with it.

Something old(ish) and blue (a 993 Carrera 2 was my other option at the time)

Something awful would have be a Cayenne...

Not into buying new. I'd rather someone else took the depreciation hit.

Not really relevant for my current steed, but when I got my 2003 WRX the other options were an Evo, a Leon Cupra R or a Focus RS.
Went for the Impreza as the Leon felt fragile, the Evo had 4.5k service intervals (about 1 months driving at that time) and the RS just didn't feel as nice as the WRX.

Do I regret it..... not for a minute though I wish I'd held out for an STI

Since when did a Fiat 500 have a 1.2 engine?

excelent cars, i am loving mine, and also do rather enjoy the exclusivity that the car has by its limited numbers sold to date.

I have a few followup ramblings on my ownership of it on my origional "whatcar" thread here somewhere.

They didn't, although it's not that uncommon to do a Fiat FIRE engine conversion which came in 999cc 8v, 1108cc 8v, 1242cc 8v & 16v and 1368cc 8v & 16v.

Possible this has had such a conversion? The description is pretty poor. Either that or the seller is a thicko.
