santa pod, 1st time run.

Just returned from the EVO day at Santa pod.
Never done 1/4 runs before but apparently a 13.1 at 107mph is a respectable time.
Quite addictive!! Anyone done this before??

Yes good fun I agree but its hard to get good traction of the line isn't it.... well it was for me anyway

Done one day at Santa Pod and two at North Weald, one of those with Funky
A bit too much stress on drivetrain to do it alot though I think...

I've been to Santa Pod but quite a few years ago ( in my Esprit GT3 ). It was very wet so everyone's times were not very good. But even so it was a good day.

Must admit, I never caned it off the line, just got into 2nd gear as quickly as possible. I'm sure I can get mid or early 12's, but didn't want to torture the car.
Was neck and neck with a remapped AMG Merc V8 on the last run. I though drag racing was for "the travelling community", how wrong I was!!

Yep they can achieve good times and terminals with practice

Just spoke with my mate at EVO, they took an R8 and it did mid 13's. So I'm happy with my time.

That's cool I think Grant and myself were doing 11.5's with 130 terminals so well pleased with that !

Great fun , I ran 11.6 , 127mph terminal in the Ultima but I'm not sure I would want to put my Noble gearbox through the stress !!!!

A mate of mine who specialises in fitting turbos to bikes holds the current "street-bike" catagory in Europe. 7.89secs and 203mph. He recons that on a long straight and with the correct gearing
he would get up to about 265mph and then the back wheel would start spinning as the frontal resistance against the air would be too great. Imagine that, wheel spin at 265mph!!!

Thats not a bad time, you could probably shave half a sec off it. I once met a guy who raced drag bikes. He crossed the line at over 200 and the throttle stuck wide open! he had to jump off the back of the bike. His knee wore down as he hit the track and he lost his kneecap. The bike carried on and embedded itself into a bank!
