Post rebuild fire up
Discussion
Last year my crankshaft pulley bolt came loose
this gave exactly the symptoms of a cambelt snapping. I had one valve slightly knocked and one just touched. I managed to scource the spares to rebuild the top end and today fired it up. The heads were skimmed at 20 thou` and the exhaust ports have been heavily ported. The engine sounds great and the exhaust note sounds deeper and crisper, my next step is a different cam`, so chaps, can I have your general opinions as to what you think is the best cam` to fit, kent, piper etc.

I wouldn't go for anything too wild or you'll lose the driveability and low end pull.
Dave Bruce (PH db800) has a very peaky cam in his 2.8 and he says its hard work to drive - you have to keep the revs up or the power tails off very quickly.

Hi Chris, I`ve had a look and realise if the cam is to wild then emissions can become an issue at the MOT. I`m after peoples thoughts, experiences etc, also to see what`s been fitted to other cars. Kent and Piper seem to crop up a lot and seem good value. I wouldn't go for anything too wild or you'll lose the driveability and low end pull.

Kent and Piper have good reputations
I'd call them and discuss - you probably want a 'fast road' type rather than a rally or race profile
Hi Mick, a rally or race cam are to much for emission tests and not very driveable, a fast road cam will do the trick, perhaps a call will help I'd call them and discuss - you probably want a 'fast road' type rather than a rally or race profile

just a tip steve, once the cam is fitted, and before you go tearing off down the road, make sure your brake calipers are on the right way up
sorry bruv, couldn`t resist
Poor Steve, If I knew you would continue to take this much stick, I would have PM'd you with my suggestion for the brake fix rather than posted it, sorry.

Hiya Paul, where would we be without a good belly laugh, I still find the whole thing comical

Yep, A Piper 270, very pleased with it. No noticeable loss of anything low down but definately a bit more punch as the revs come up
Hello Mike, glad you`re pleased with the cam, I`m hoping to get similar results plus a bit more after my cylinder heads have been reworked. Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Just goes to show, there's always someone worse off than yourself.
