Currently have an oiled K&N one fitted, quick question on it and Air Filters in general.
How can you calculate the max air flow for a given air filter and how does that then rate against the maximum power 'potential' for the filter when fitted
.
Sub question, the K&N maintenance kit (claning/re-oiling kit) comes with the bloody oil in an aerosol, how'd the feck do you put a line up each crease with that then
I don't want to over oil it, not that I'd know if it was over oiled in the first place can someone answer that as well
.
Many Thanxs in advance

Hello,
I've got a k&N in my mini and I generally find that the oil, once sprayed on spreads out quite well of its own accord.
They do come oiled but still say to spray them up before fitting, and the spray is silly, but if you're really bothered, they do sell it in a normal bottle I think. As for over oiling it, ???,I'm no expert but could it really make that much difference?
Just crack on is my advice!

Overoiling can be a problem, so don't let it get wet enough to drip, but the oil will naturally film the fibres to its maximum, and is sufficiently thin not to impede air flow anyway. The flow capacity of a filter should have been measured with maximum coverage of fibres to equate to maximum filtering ability anyway. this is quite a good little site you may find useful www.speed-sports.com/Go-Peds/Clean_Air_Filter.htmland this is for the anoraks in town, including formulae
