Sorry - A What Car? Family / Work Car

I have a silly Impreza STi as a toy and Focus Zetec Diesel for work. However, the Focus is starting to be a pain for family stuff, and to properly set the scene I have twins!

So, what would you get? I am not a badge snob, I do require good MPG for work (45+mpg on a run) and would like to be able to fill the boot up with kiddie crap. A roof box could be used for holidays, so it does not have to be an estate.

I seem to be taken (at least was on the way to work) by a land rover.

£10K limit.

Sorry, don't have any sensible suggestions (although Octavias and Mondeos seem popular) but no LR has ever got more than 30mpg. Ever.

Yep, SWMBO has a 2.2D. I've come to respect its abilities as it's quite handy for a bus but if we didn't need 3 seats in the back (we've got twins too and a toddler) I'd stick with a proper car.

Merc E class estate? The 220 diesels seem to offer a good performance/economy compromise (and plenty of room for twin buggies in the boot):

Not sure tbh, it's so much better than my car that I haven't ever bothered working it out accurately. I reckoned it was about 35mpg on holiday, but we were doing 85mph with a roofbox
