Car Club vs Pistonheads

Reading the Power and Passion threads, I got to thinking, if PistonHeads had come along before the car club, how many people that are members now, would have joined the club. What do people think they get from the car club, that they can't get from Pistonheads? Then I thought, if the car club hadn't come along first, would PistonHeads have evolved the way it has..........

I think that Sprint is a top quality magazine, the local region is going from strength to strength, and I like the updated website.

There is a need for Pistonheads too, and I'm sticking with both.

We're lucky to have both and I wouldn't want to lose either.

I don't think it needs to be viewed as one versus the other.

Sprint magazine is ace and I think the club offers loads of things of interest to do if you're into TVR's.

PH is just PH, more addictive than nicotine but just that touch more healthy. (until my eyes burnout and I get sacked from work.)

At my first TVRCC meet a couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to the existing members as a 'Pistonheader' who has successfully infiltrated the East Sussex region..."Pistonheads is upon us" IIRC! You bet!

However, I was made to feel very welcome

Funnily enough, I had every intention of joining the Car Club long before I ever came across PH!

Pistonheads is for all car enthusiasts. The TVR car club for TVR enthusiasts.... both are great, although I do prefer the PH'ers, they're a diverse, all walks of life bunch.

But then I do like the GTOUK club too, they're really down to earth...

The Rover club was good until it started to fade away

The BMW club is great, but sometimes gets a little crowded if you know what I mean.

Overall, the best club is me and my wife and our cars... perfect harmony

TVRCC is a magazine, that's all I get from it. PH is the community. I'll stay with both but only because the TVRMAGAZINEC is still worth the money.

Surely PH and the Car club give the same thing, a magazine that you pay for (PH in e-form) and a chance to enjoy your car with other like minded enthusiasts.

Where they are both again similar is that you only get out what you put in. Its a shame you don't get more from the club than the mag, but there is lots more out there than a mag.

The question was asked after reading some of the Power and Passion threads and I wanted to gauge for myself how much of what was being written was anti- car club.

I guess the region we live in is maybe a little odd when the RO organises things for PH and the club. (Sometimes its difficult to tell if its a PH or a car club event - doesnt' matter for me, the more the merrier)

I've not seen anything on this brief thread to suggest that any bad feeling exists towards the car club. IMO there is room for both and I tend to agree with most of whats been said so far.....

aah Gemimi, I wondered when someone would bring me into it!

I'm not sure I want to go down that road again, I beleve some good came out of the last situation, once the club realised there were a lot of people out there, who were members that couldn't get on with the old school clique things started to move forward and it now seems to cater for a broader audience so I don't think it would be fair to knock the club.

I joined the car club AFTER using Pistonheads, for cheaper insurance and went to a meet as a by product.

I bought my TVR on the strength of Pistonheads, I was looking to get another Porsche but had always loved TVRs but needed something with realistic running costs, after looking at loads of crap 911s I decided to do a bit more research into TVR and stumbled across Pistonheads and was taken back by this great community that really looked after each other for anything! All the little niggles etc. I found out that servicing was realistically priced and the reliability reputation was bollocks so in December 2001 I bought my Chimaera and it was the best thing I have ever done.

So to everyone who has ever helped my on this site with any question I thank you. and if I can help anyone, I always will.

Hi Johnny,

Perhaps you live somewhere close to a TVRCC Region. This has always been my problem. I live between two regions and would have to cover a 150 mile round trip to go to a regional meet. Don't misunderstand me, I do love driving but 150 miles for an evening pub meet just never seems to work its way into my calendar. As a result my only connection with the TVRCC is Sprint. I do interact, I've written a couple of articles for Sprint and got some feedback but it just doesn't compare with the level of interaction I get here.

We use to be in a similar position with 100 miles to the nearest Regional meeting....so we moved. Now have three almost on the doorstep and active PistonHeads folk near by who alos arrange things in the area!

Don't think the discusion comprimises anyone, and so far nothing has been said on this thread that suggests the two don't compliment each other. Have I missed something?
