First post so please be gentle with me.

I have just bought my first TVR after numerous years of drooling and must say it’s everything I ever thought it would be and more. I just need to learn how to drive it properly now! I am sure it will all come together in time and god knows I’m going to have fun trying. It’s a mk1 Tuscan and overall it’s in very good condition but a slight niggle is the offside wing mirror that I would like to replace. It has a blemish on it and wondered if I could just replace the glass rather than the whole unit. If so where do I get the parts and how easy is it to replace by myself?

Cheers

Hi JontyC, Congrats on geting a Tuscan. Hope your smiling muscles are in good working order.

I replaced the glass in mine. Think I got the glass from TVR Power in Coventry.

Good luck and be carefull on damp roads.

Tony.

Thanks for the welcome.

Does the mirror just pop out then? What about the heating elements?

The stick on ones from ebay and elsewhere do not have heating elements. You need either a TVR or VW dealer unless you are lucky on ebay.

They are not cheap as corrado mirrors are rare.

Mine came from David Gerald from VW I think they are about £40

Welcome to the fold! Which one did you buy? Pics?

It mentions on Ebay heated mirrors with back plate.

Anyone used one of these? Any good?

I prised mine out carefully with a flat bladed screwdriver and a cloth pad to protect the paint on the mirror housing, it needs a bit of force but you will hear it click as it pops off the clips

Sorry it’s been a while with my reply but me and DIY don’t mix. Didn’t take that long to actually do the job but with me everything is a comedy of errors.

I ordered this one to start with!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-1988-1995...

Prised out the old mirror from the housing, no problem. Then had to prise the old mirror off the backing plate as the new mirror doesn't come with one. Once off I noticed that the electrical lugs on the new heated mirror do not line up with the holes on the original backing plate. Anyway it didn't matter because within 5 minutes I'd dropped the new one and smashed it 'B*ll*cks'! So I ordered this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-CORRADO-88-95-CON...

Now this new backing plate will fit but it is a lot smaller than the original backing plate so I didn't use it as I thought more area bonding with the mirror would be more conducive. I simply cut a larger hole in the original backing plate with a Stanley knife (other sharp craft knives are also available) to incorporate the electrical lugs on the new heated mirror. Stuck the new mirror to the old modified backing plate with the sticky back plastic supplied and also a little super glue for safe measure. Connected the wires to the lugs on popped the little beauty back in. Went for a test drive and it didn’t fall out so jobs a gud 'en!!

Lol at the mishaps. Reminds me of when I spent ages searching ebay for some Chevette rear lights for my G33. The lights arrived and I rushed to fit them. I put them on the ground and pushed the car out of the garage straight over the lights flattening them!

Yeah, whenever I attempt to do any DIY there ALWAYS seems to be a story. Still got a hole in the kitchen roof but not going to go there! Now the mirrors done think I'll set about the heater ECU as the heater blower is not blowing consistently. Prepare for another tale of woe! Anyway as it was sunny today thought I’d get the camera out and post a piccy as promised earlier in this post.

Looks great Jon. I always liked that colour combination :-)

Pete

p.s Heater ECU - make sure you just give the fan control a twiddle after ignition off/on. The ECU doesn't read the analogue input otherwise, and the fan stays off until you make an adjustment. They all do that, standard mk1 behaviour or so I was told.

Must admit it is rather nice. Just ordered some Dodo Juice to keep her looking sweet. Both kids love the car (especially my daughter) but we have had to find someone to look after them so I could take the missus out this weekend for the first time. She was most impressed, said it reminded her of her MG, except a little faster! Hope things are well with you and yours Pete and don't worry I'm taking good care of her. Cheers for the tip re the Heater.
