Car is not running

Hi all,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, not sure if its something minor or serious.
I recently got a new ECU map to suit the bigger injectors and T28's, so the ECU was fitted waiting for the injectors to be upgraded to suit.
My mechanic is just 500 metres down the road from m so i decided to see if it would start to get me down there, which it did but was coughing and spluttering, but i got it to crawl along at a snails pace, until about 100 metres from the garage it cut out.
I know at this point i am also thinking the same, stupid taht i did not change the injectors before trying to run it.
Anyway got it to the garage and first job was to change the injectors and try to get it running again, but it was chugging and spluttering more than before and would not tick over, opening the throttle also made no difference, my mechanic said it sounds like the timing was out as the car was not running on all six cylinders, but the ECU map is definately correct for the timing.
Any ideas waht to check for or what could be the problem? bearing in mind it literally will not even tick over at the moment. We checked all vaccuum pipes, made sure all sensors were plugged in, all injectors and plugs are in the correct order, the air intake manifold and throttle body are all sealed correctly.

What injector size have you gone from and to?
Having gone larger I assume, the Injector pulses would be smaller, hence the coughing and spluttering would probably be it running particularly lean?
Try pulling the plugs, if they've got wet as the new injectors have started working, it won't start, if they're wet, just dry them out and try again?

lol my mechanic was not so happy, when he took off the cap to test fuel pressure and only air came out, he looked at me and said "if the tank is empty i am going to kill you", but i was like no way it can't be empty there was half a tank in there yesterday and i had not been anywhere.
Sure enough it was bone dry which is now making me wonder where it all went, no signs of a leak, as unlikely as it may seem the only explanation i can come up with is that somebody must have stolen it in the middle of the night.

)?Fuel gauge was reading empty also but I only looked at the gauge in hindsight because i was so certain that there was plenty of fuel in the tank.
I never lock my fuel cap due to lazyness and the car lives outside my house under a canopy, i honestly think somebody came along in the middle of the night and nicked it.

lol, thats the good thing about owning this car in cyprus it is simply too difficult to steal, its the only one on the island so it stands out like a sore thumb, it is not worth anything to be broken down for parts, its impossible to get it shipped off of the island, the stereo is 8 years old and joy riding is not a done thing over here.If you think about it the petrol was the only thing that waws worth taking, it was bloody octane 100 aswell

It happens a few times a year to me, even with it locked. It's a terribly easy car to unlock a locked cap, and then the most ideal car to syphon out of it. A simple locked car cover has flumoxed the locals that were doing it and given the cost of a tank, has now paid for itself in just over a year.I never lock my fuel cap due to lazyness and the car lives outside my house under a canopy, i honestly think somebody came along in the middle of the night and nicked it.
With a tank being around £60 I fear this problem is just going to get worse.
