I have a fairly minor but pretty irritating problem with my E60.

For a few weeks I have had intermittent problems related to the battery - messages on start up, trip computer resetting and clock/date settings being lost. On one occasion the car wouldn't start due to a flat battery (or at least the car thought it was flat).

In early February it went into a BMW specialist who ran it through the computer and found no specific drains. They charged the battery overnight and replaced the IBS lead as these are known to cause problems.

This did not resolve the issue and the car went in again this morning.

This time the diagnostics have thrown up an error, "Terminal 30g-f shut-down due to start capability limit". "Note if terminal 30g-f is reset time and date are lost".

Also the battery charge level was around 35%.

The battery has now been replaced to match the new IBS lead from last month.

Unfortunately the problem persists.

Any ideas or suggestions? I know the trip computer/date and time resetting is hardly the end of the world but it is annoying.

The garage can't suggest anything definite - they suspect it may be a control unit but as this is around £600 fitted to replace I don't want to go ahed unless I know for sure it will fix things. The IBS lead and battery have already cost circa £350 and not altered a thing!!

Anyone?

Had this on my E60 -replaced the battery and now all is well - think it mentions the clock etc resetting in the handbook as the computer starts to switch things off to save power (how much power the clock saves , who knows!) (?)It happened more and more often and during the winter , started struggling to start , trip computrt reset etc etc . Also noticed other electrical glitches until the new battery was fitted .

( sorry - just noticed that you have already changed the battery ....)

It's your new efficient dynamics clock, every time you pull up to a junction it will stop and turn itself off, what will those crazy Bavarians think of next....

(I'm not helping much am i).
