V5, MOT, VIC and Numberplates for a Salvage car

Ok so following on from my previous posts 1& 2, I've bought this today.

They are arranging free delivery from Birmingham to Selby which is nice of them, however it's just come off a private plate (HPI Confirms this) and doesn't have a V5, it will also need an MOT and possibly a VIC, although I have all the service history and HPI checks out etc I don't have any official paperwork (V5, MOT etc), the car doesn't have it's original plates and I can't get any without some paperwork!

Now my understanding is:
To MOT it, you need numberplates
To VIC it, you need an MOT
To obtain a V5 you need to have completed a VIC
To buy a numberplate you need a V5, V5 slip, MOT or similar documentation

So how should I go about getting the car back on the road??

If it's coming off a private plate isn't it automatically being allocated a new age-related plate instead ? (and corresponding V5 etc. ?)

Oh, is that how it works?? So should I call the DVLA then??

Spoken to DVLA,

They said the Vehicle needs a VIC check, to do this I DON'T need an MOT, but will need a V948 form from VOSA to get a numberplate, then I can MOT it etc.

However to book a VIC I need to make myself the registered keeper using form v62 which normally carries a £25 fee, but this would be included in the VIC check so i need to send a covering letter with the V62 form explaining I am going to book a VIC.

Oh and the V62 is going to take 4 weeks, then I can BOOK the VIC check, then book an MOT!

Do you know the plate it is going on? If so, you can buy plates of eBay and the like withough all the normal docs.

Don't know about the VIC side of things as don't get involved in it but you don't need number plates, or a registration number, for an MOT.

I'm going to find somewhere that will make some "show plates" (but correctly formatted) for now, this way I shouldn't need any paperwork.

After speaking to VOSA, they contradicted the DVLA and said anyone can apply for a VIC, so I've applied for that now
