Back wheel rubbing agianst the break? Wheel alignment?
Discussion
Hi Guys
I've noticed the back wheel on my Specilized Allez is rubbing against the break, and not spinning freely. When I open the break calipers, its fine.
Any ideas on how to fix? I was really hoping to ride to work today and get back up to fitness, sadly if I cant fix this myself i'll need to take it to Evans and miss out on a few extra miles this week!
Thanks!
Daz

You should be able to turn the brake caliper manually so that it is not rubbing.
Open the caliper out using the release button on the side then push the brake pad on the opposite side to the one that is rubbing.
You should be able to move it over and back until it is centred. Is the wheel straight? Does it rub the full way around or just a certain points on the wheel?

there should be a little cap where the cable goes into the caliper, screw that a few turns and it will release a bit of tension on the cable probably enough to resolve the problem. when you have more time, undo the cable and start again. its a ten minute job max, but buy a "how to fix a bike" book and you will have every other potential issue covered too. i can recommend this one. £10, about what evans would pay for fixing the brakes.....

Loosen the quick release slightly till it spins, ride it to work one day this week and I'll have a look at it for you at lunch time, it probably just needs a minor adjustment.I've noticed the back wheel on my Specilized Allez is rubbing against the break, and not spinning freely. just twist the whole brake around a bit, they go out of alignment very easily.
On my Allez with the standard non-branded brakes this did the trick for me the one time it was a problem, however I seem to recall better models have a proper grub screw for adjustment. Grab the whole caliper and rotate it around where it attaches to the frame until you get it centred.ETA: If you've been removing the wheels, then make sure that they're correctly seated/aligned too.

Cheers mate, I wont be bale to ride in this week though as it looks like I need to get a wheel-true done- the back wheel looks ever so slightly buckled when I loosened the caliper! Pablo- that book looks good, consider it purchased!
