Oberoi Lombok ?
Discussion
So, The Oberoi Lombok.
We had our honeymoon here last in 2009, with 3 days in Singapore bookended on each side of the stay.
The Oberoi Hotel is absolutely fabulous, sculpted gardens with millions of staff, spotless and imaculate pool and terrace for sunbathing, masses of room to sprawl out, great views of the bay, staff who are falling over themselves to help you. You try and pick up your (excellent) sun lounger to follow the sun and a pool boy literally runs over to help you move it. I kid you not, runs over! This is 6star service.
The food is amazing, basically a proper restuarant on site doing evening meals, albeit quite formal in conduct. We're talking shirt and trousers for dinner and polite quiet conversation. Many and varied fish, and lots of other things too. You can order a meal in your room and they set up the same service level in your room or on your balcony, at no extra cost. Full table setting etc when you want. Daytime food also good with 6star service. Full PADI dive station adjouning the hotel with pricy but good scuba and snorkling.
This is a superlative level of service.
Negatives:
1) Cost: all food drink and consumables are seperately charged. And we're talking $75-£100 per day for two poeple for average lunch, a few beers by the pool and a decent two course dinner. Factor this charge in!
2) Location: the hotel is secluded/remote. We're talking 90mins taxi from the airport and 45 mins taxi from the nearest nightlife spot. That said we did two trips south down the coast in a private taxi to explore of an evening nad found some great places for the price of a taxi each way (£12 rtn)
3) Boredom........ it';s a getaway bolt-hole hotel, if you get bored easily and need distraction on holiday, then only do 5 days here. I loved our 17 nights, but I tend to zone out from the NHS on holiday and read books or flog the ipod.
Summary: Incredible top-notch, rub shoulders with millionaires hotel, but pay for what you get. And tucked away it certainly is.
