Omega price increase 1/4/11?

Just been reading on TZ that Omega are going to stick a 9% price hike out come April 1st... any of the AD's here know any more about this? (I'm looking at you DomH!)
That would make a bog standard 45.5mm PO nearly £2,700... If that's the case, I won't be buying one as a birthday present to myself.

Seems to be an oft repeated topic this, not as in repost tackle, as in they bump the prices up often.
IIRC, the master plan is to push the brand up above the rest of the market at that level. If it's more expensive, it's better innit ?
Might have worked 10 years ago, but there's only a finite amount of ways you can tart the range up.

I'm gonna have to pass on that PO then, unless some dealers are accomodating... the problem is I'm intending to take it on 0% so I'd have bob hope and no hope of getting a discount off list, and we all know about Bob Hope...al1991 said:

Sort of! On one hand you have a well built, beautifully designed watch, which incorporates a COSC grade ETA movement that has been modified to accept a co-axial movement. For enthusiasts who are interested in movements, this is Omega's unique selling point. It doesn't do much more than tell the time to COSC regulations, but the co-axial escapement makes the ETA movement a little different from the norm!Considering there are lots and lots of other £3K+ watches with unmodified ETA movements, the PO doesn't seem too bad at £2.7K. However on the other hand, it does seem a kick in the nuts for anyone who is saving for a PO ... Paying an additional ~£400 for no reason is quite painful, but then again other watch companies increase their prices year on year as well.
I believe this is Omega's plan to align itself with the likes of Rolex, but perhaps they need to start making their own in-house movements before we start seeing £4K PO's!
I paid £1500 for my Planet Ocean42mm black bezel 18 months ago .Now they will be heading towards 3k .I wont be buying another Omega ,I think they have become too expensive as one can buy much better brands for the money . Some of the Omega chronos are now over 45k for stainless steel models this is in IWC/JLC territory. What are Omega playing at ?

I bought my 41mm auto SMP in 1997 for £1095. I'm sure the watch stayed at that price for years until the Co-Ax model was launched. Prices seemed to creep up from there so that the RRP has doubled since I bought.
In the same vein, my Rolex GMT cost me approx £2100 back in 1998. Times have moved on and the model has evolved but £4900 for the GMTIIc means the price has more than doubled in 13 years. This reflects the change in Omega prices rises too.
Agree that the pricing now seems crazy. IWC increased its pricing earlier this year driving the 3717 Pilot chronographs up to £3500. Back in August 2007 you could buy one for £2250
