Hi Guys

I am going through the process of renewing my passport which runs out shortly.

However, the form says that I need to send off my current passport with my application which is inconvenient as I do a lot of business travelling.

Is there a way around this? I suppose I could pay extra for a faster service, but is there any other way around this?

Many thanks!

If there's passport office near you phone and arrange a same-day replacement; more expensive again but worth it to get a guaranteed replacement with no wory of things going missing in post or delayed etc. Appear with old passport, then go back 4 hours later to collect new one. Of course the same day service only works for passports not classified as 'damaged', and assumes of courss that the lass behind the counter doesn't damage your passport just to see if it actually was damaged....but that's another story. Just had to do that last month as I need mine every week.

Or you be a naughty boy and lie and say you lost the old one. But then you have to jump through hoops, plus I don't know if they check-up on use of the 'lost' passport so not a good option really.

Edited - just noticed you're in Scotland; your choice of passport offices is Glasgow or Glasgow. At least there's cheap parking outside and nearby. Just watch what they're up to with your old passport when you hand it over if it's not pristine.

Magic, many thanks for that.

Sounds like a trip to Glasgow is in order.

We did a same day appointment @ Glasgow.

Arrived @9:00AM and had the passport by 11:00AM. The BEST service I've ever had from a government department, and on a Saturday as well.

I did the 1-week service, again from Glassgow. Arrived at 11am for my appointment. Back out the door by 11.20, passport arrived by post the next day.

Amazing!

I had this just before Christmas, I have two work permits and two diffrent offices in two diffrent places, and travel between them each week (Passport doesn't last long) wrote a lette,r copied recent exit and entry stamp and had a simple letter from my employer, sent acopy of my old passport, every page, no problem and now I have two pasports.

Absolutely - this is routine stuff to the passport office - as long as you have a letter from your employer stating you need to travel frequently, getting a second passport is very easy. I've had two passports for years now. Also handy to keep certain conflicting visas/stamps in seperate passports to avoid difficult immigration situations (Arab/Isreal/US/etc).

Same here, really quick and efficient in Glasgow passport office. Barely had time for a quick nosey around the Mercedes garage over the road!

Kudos

Being in Ireland comes in handy for this - one from each country too

Check up no , they just cancel it !. You have to fill a form to say you lost it when you apply for the new one & thats when its canceled. You also have to go for an interview at one of the offices, well not much of an interview, more just being there. I went on a Thurs. to London office, got new one on the Tues. that was on a 7 day service £112 yikes.
