I would have added this to the climate thread, however this is more to do with where the money goes rather than arguments over whether the planet is warming or not.

The UK is sending billions to Europe under the carbon-crusade banner, however what is the money going to be spent on? Where is it going? Does anyone check what the money is spent on? Or is it purely extra money to prop up the EU and so the money goes unchecked?

It is going to get wasted on all of the things you consider to be completely pointless, rather than on developing technologies that provide cheap renewable energy or something similarly useful.

Well, given that there has been no significant warming for a number of years, whatever they do with the money is obviously working...

Just wait, after the last couple of winters they are no doubt going to demand a few billion to stave off an ice age.
We've got to get out of this madhouse.

They get spent in the general tax pool there is no streaming of taxes so that they are spent in the area they are raised, road taxes are a classic example, much more raised than is spent on roads.

We don't though, that's the point. Energy demand is pretty inelastic except for us child killing, earth hating, bunny boiling demons that drive for fun the vast majority of energy use is not wasted.

This is well known so putting high taxes on it's use will not curb its use just raise money for the bureaucrats to give to themselves and their friends.

Fuel tax will NEVER be lowered, certainly not while we're in the EU.

Yuo know that the EU accounts haven't been signed off in years? To ask for any accountability for where "green" taxes are spent would require the EU bureaucrats to get their finances in order. Fat chance.

You would think that they would check on where the money goes but it is quite obvious that the big contributors don't care of are in on the EU 'scam'. A quick drive around Greece would show that the money sent for roads was not used properly, the wastage and corruption is all out in the open in Greece and similar countries yet it is somehow a big surprise that it all gone tits up.

Back to the original question, The Greek PM said himself that Green taxes would be used to prop up the economy and not save us from boiling to death.
