Just read this amusing blog post from "Sideways" Steve Sutcliffe.

Goes to great lengths to admit how great forum users are and how they keep motoring journalists on their toes and stop them being lazy. As far as I'm aware, this is one of the first blog posts I can remember which praises forumites (?) rather than refer to them as spotty geeks who live in their parent's cellar.

It's true too - the knowledge of PH'ers is pretty amazing. You only need to go to the Flemke thread to see that!

Not just flemkes thread, just yesterday there popped up a thread of some fairly generic 17" wheel, it was identified within minutes.
Or threads with pictures of parts of various cars (I posted one last week), during midnight, all 9 identified within the hour.

It still baffles me from time to time
