For anyone that's interested here are a few pics after the press conference, Basel opens tomorrow where we'll get a better idea on price and a better idea what they look like.

Explorer II update, similarly to the Submariner update, it is now 42mm and a little chunkier. I actually quite like the wider hands and the orange GMT hand harks back to the older ExpII's which I must admit, are my favourite of the older Rolii (vaguely in my price bracket at least).

I think it's a ten minute count-down timer. Useful in, er, well yachting I suppose!

It's a countdown timer used at the start of a yacht race.

Yacht racing countdown timer, seemingly!

And an official Rolex pic, I'll just put the ExpII up...

I think that's a fixed ceramic bezel on the Daytona.

I'm not sure on the ExpII, I'd like to see one in the metal though.
Why oh why do they have the horrible engraved rehaut though?!

jshell - I presume so if that's what the Speedmaster has got. I think I prefer the plain metal 'bezel' in truth, but I'm not a massive Daytona fan anyway boxedinsmile

I think you've summed up how I feel about it Luke, I didn't know whether I was just being an old fart about it but my feeling is that it'll probably be quite nice but yes, things like the rehaut are a bit over-embellished I think.
Mind you, I quite like the orange writing on both the black and white dials and the GMT hand makes a change I suppose.

Although a bit smaller, I'd still go for an old one though, it's the unique, conventional handset, orange hand and massive 12 o'clock marker I think...

if I had 10k+ lying around with nothing better to do that is...

(PS - TAGHeuer fans should keep an eye out for their Basel offering, should be an interesting first wink )

I'm starting to think along the lines of you guys who have been collecting for a while. Why don't some of these companies push the boat out a little and come up with a new design instead of rehashes of an old favourite.

I could live with the Explorer as a day to day watch for work, except I still dislike the cyclops on any watch.

The YM is repugnant. Why does it have to shout YACHTMASTER II on the bezel ???

The Daytona is of no interest at all . ..

Rolex's design department/consultants are now returning to Porsche for another long look at their model range, when they are finished it will look largely similar, but a little bit better hehe

Innovation, pah, who needs it.

I know, unless it's there for a reason then why complicate the dials appearance with it . . . it does seem Rolex feel the need for their watches to tell everyone else looking at them exactly what it's got/does, or would do if you were visiting the San Andreas fault line underwater smile

The ultimate soon will be one that says "ROLEX, a watch, secs, minutes, hours, date, GMT functions and a bracelet" all on the face or engraved into the rehaut so everyone knows when you wear it.

hehe

Designed by an American with American design in mind AFAIK. AKA the Clownmaster.

From the engraved rehauts I don't really like the look of their watches, as mentioned it seems they're desperately trying to show everyone what they are.
No thanks...!

This on the other hand...

I rather like that!

I'll be interested to see the price of the new Exp II but I can see it replacing my current version at some point quite soon.

YM1 is my favourite Rolex watch-Ive had my full sized yellow gold 16628 with white dial for well over 10 years now and I still love it as much as the day I bought it

I was really excited when they announced YM2 but when I saw it in the flesh I was very disappointed and the design has not grown on me in the 3 years or so its been on sale.I also think you would look a bit of a plonker wearing one unless you were a yachtsman and used it as intended.

The Explorer 2 was my first ever Rolex and I really like the updated model.
