1/4 Mile Annihilator for £2000

I've been thinking, is it possible to make an extremely fast Santa Pod style drag car for under 2k?

I'm not talking about a 5000BHP rocket car or anything, just something mental with around 500BHP that can shock alot of other cars out there?

The Top Gear Jag for example had a so-called 500BHP on tap; 300 from the engine and 200 from nitrous.

Is it possible to buy a car for say £1000 and then spend a mere £1000 modifying it to a Santa Pod animal?

I doubt it, but would love to give it a go one day, lol

Try an OM606 in a W124 - with the modified fuel pump from some mad finish bloke, AMG injectors and chore a turbo off your nearest Scotrail. Okay, it mightn't last long, but you only want a 1/4 mile machine so its fine. Oh, and trying to steal the turbo from the Scotrail might land you with a hefty fine for trespassing AND theft, but it'd be worth it because you've got a 1/4 mile monster.

Seriously though - find the cheapest turbocharged car, strip everything out nitrous and huge boost. It'd probably get at least two runs.

In all seriousness, if that is the sort of thrills OP is wanting, then thats actually the best suggestion for him to get his fix. If he is asking the question on a hypothetical basis, you'd just need find the car with the most power and traction, shed some weight, as I said preferably a turbo so it could be crudely modified with an MBC or something.

But thats a very different question to your OP.

Something powerful is the most sensible answer. Maybe a MR2 MKII Turbo if you can find one. Or a 6.0 unloved V12 XJ12 saloon.

Bikes aren't really an option mate sadly, I'm thinking cars, otherwise of course a bike would be the best way to go.

That MR2 is a beast! I was thinking Japanese tbh, like a GTO Twin Turbo, or Skyline GTS-T, but of course for under a grand it's hard to find one.

Agreed. I've got a Skyline GTS at the moment funnily enough and it's a non turbo with 210BHP, quick but not drag standards by any means.

I heard a 106 GTI will annihilate everything. they do 0-60 in 6 secs, so will rock the 1/4 mile :/

seriously though. get an r33 gtst skyline on high mileage, turn up the turbo and you'll have 350bhp, though it may not last too long.

Range Rover V8, remove bodyshell, cut excess from the chassis, fit low profile tyres to the rims (lowering the gear ratio's giving better acceleration!)

Low range too for the short sprints!, 4 wheel drive, low weight, big engine, plenty of spares, easy to fit a short shift (cut the foot off the top of the stick!)



ETA: something like this (but with a V8 and range rover chassis, low profile tyres and some lower roll bars so it sits low to the ground!

Both being standard an MR2 turbo would dust a Skyline GTS-T, and probably the GTO too (although I wouldnt touch a GTO/3000GT with a barge pole at this price).

They are very good on the 1/4. I did a mid 13 run on my first ever go, on a concrete drag strip, and it was practically standard (exhaust + induction).
