Just sorting out new springs for the Griff and wanted to see what people were running? the car will be more track-road orientated and is a bit heavier with the LS lump and TKO box, have spoke to a few people and 400 on the rear and 500 on the front seems to be the prefered option, although i'm thinking 450 on the front might be a bit more comfortable on the road!!

I have heard a lot of good things about the new Gaz monos, how do they compare to Nitrons? Do they need servicing regularly like Nitrons?

Sorry to the OP for O/T

When i upped the output of my engine i went through several spring sizes trying to cure torque squat on the rear having previously had a perfect setup. I ended up with 550/400 on GAZ nickel shocks.
But I had the problem that the shocks were not valved correctly for these heavy springs as they were originally supplied with Dereks fast road setup. The result was despite them being wound up to max, i couldn't dampen down the fast rebound which made the car very twitchy when you lifted off as the nose would pop up rapidly, unloading the from suspension.
In the end i went to Nitron and had a set specced with slightly softer springs but with the shocks correctly valved to the spring rates "and" the uprated engine torque, it is now perfect again smile. Sorry can't recall what they are now but 400/375 rings a bell? (on Nitron 3 ways)

not dissing Gaz shocks because they are good value but Nitrons are far superior but quite a bit dearer. it depends what you wnat to use the car for.

The new Gaz Mono's are a Nitron similar spec, looky likey, yet to be proved I suppose.

The proof etc, only time will tell read.

Peter,
I'm not 100% of the weight increase with the LS and the TKO Box but cannot see it being more than 10 to 15 k at a guess!!! Ready to be shot down in flames.

Christian.

15 KG isn't much, I wouldn' go stiffer then my 450/400 setup, not unless you want to rattle those fillings!

Its not the weight you need to be worried about...the TKO IS heavy, but its reasonably centralised (I dont think there is much in it between LS/RV8??).
Its the extra engine torque thats the issue LSxx is going to be putting out easily as much torque as mine (425-450 lb/ft) this is a massive increase over stock and you'll be hitting the bump stop on hard acceleration as i was with a typical aftermarket springs suggested.
I had to up the rears to prevent torque squat which then meant upping the fronts to maintain balance I would talk to Derek or Nitron to ask about having the valving specced to suit the power output, that way you can then reduce the spring weight a little.

It's funny how a T/D joggs the memory.

I did Snetterton on Tuesday and I have to say, I wouldn't go less then the 450/400 setup.

You forget how compliant the suspension becomes at speed where as on the road, you wonder why you fitted such stiff springs.

Untill Gaz/Nitron bring out the magic button for the dash that stiffens up the suspension, (like Porsche) you will have to go for a very firm set up especially as Bluebottle suggests, the additional torque will warrent further stiffness wink, (but not too stiff)!

Having driven both, Wadsapples 5.2 grief with Nitrons and mine with the "Mono's".
Both are similarly sprung but the Nitrons, (and of course it's all down to valving) where extremly harsh, (stiff feeling) and the Mono's more compliant, which I prefer.

As to servicing, I can't comment but I will probably send mine for a service at 12-18 months just to pre-empt any problems, (a little winter job)!
