Hey all

On the 3rd of April it's Mothers Day and the MiL's birthday so the OH has got it into her head that it would be nice to go down to the New Forest for a picnic.

Can anyone suggest somewhere nice to go? The criteria I have been given is as follows:

- Must have a nice area for a picnic
- Must have ponies nearby (because their whereabouts can be planned of course!)
- Needs to have somewhere nearby to shelter if the weather turns nasty/is nasty to begin with

I had suggested just going to the White Hart for a burger and some drink but apparently that's not very special.

Cheers

Lots of places in the Forest for you!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&a...

B on the map is Wilverley inclosure which isn't a bad spot for a picnic, plenty of ponies.
C also a good spot with a big open area.

if the weather turns then A is a nice Tea rooms/cafe place at an old station. Pretty decent food and stuff. Burley not far away either for a wander around trinket shops if that's her thing.

You are also not far from Sammy Millers bike museum - excellent tea Rooms there.

Edited to add the map in! Doh!

Thanks for this, much appreciated. Am liking the idea of being near the Sammy Miller museum, will have to find a reason to pop in!

Exbury gardens? Its a bit pricey, but that keeps the riff-raff out biggrin There are a smattering of picnic tables on the lawn by the house, and a couple vastly overpriced tea rooms.

If you want to molest some ponies theres loads on the way between Beaulieu and Exbury.

Its also about 1.5 miles to Lepe beach, or you can head off to the Montagu Arms/Montys Brasserie. More ponies here, generally, and quite often some Donkeys if that floats your boat too laugh

Thanks, will have the kids and family in tow so would have to give the animal molesting a miss!

I'll have a look at Exbury, liking the idea of avoiding the riff-raff.

There are a couple of nice garages in the Lyndhurst area. Only if you have a few minutes to spare on the way back though wink

Beaulieu motor museum is a nice place for a picnic wink bmct membership gets a family in free too, not sure if you'd get the card back in time though.

Hill top is always a safe bet - just off the Exbury road. I've been going there for years with my family since I was a young(er) one, lots of horsey things and there is the pub on the corner (The Royal Oak) if the weather turns nasty. And you could always drive down to Beaulieu to ogle the cars if you get bored...

I'd recommend Wilverley Inclosure. I work just down the road so my girlfriend and I often have a picnic there at lunch or take a little BBQ there and spend the evening there after. Ahhh, this is the life!!!

Lyndhurst is always a good shout, nice little green area, regularly littered with
Cows and horses (Beaulieu Road end), also the village for a little retail relief.... not forgetting Meridien Modena to dribble at.

You could go to the High Corner Inn.
